skins.

DSCLAIMER: RATED M18

Skins

i'm not sure if any of you guys have heard of this series from london.

the first generation of Skins comprises Series 1 and 2. The main characters include: a popular, but manipulative boy (Tony), his mysterious and powerful sister (Effy), a Muslim boy (Anwar), an openly gay boy (Maxxie), an overbearing and talented clarinet player (Jal), a party animal with family problems (Chris), a pushover (Sid) who is in love with his best friend's girlfriend, a girl who is worried her boyfriend is only using her (Michelle), a mentally unstable girl with an eating disorder (Cassie) and a girl who has a strong infatuation with her gay neighbor (Sketch).

the series comprise of different, oddly related bunch of friends who stick with each other through everything. despite being so different, esp. Anwar, the beliefs shared with ingroup is strong. the social behavior towards life is shared a common need, view and goal.

the go out together, have parties together, get high on drugs together or whatever london kids do, they definitely hang out together. they are highly interdependent of each other, conforming to each others ideas.

in shools today, everyone would just rather stick to friends whom we have a common understanding with. anyways, someone once told me "friends are God's way of apologising for parents". not sure how to make use of this but it is friends who understand us the most never the parents. as immature as this sound, some still choose to believe that parents are just a burden that prevents us from learning from our own mistakes.

not sure how true the series potray the behaviors of kids in London but it is similar to that of Singapore. its a generalization that kids would rather be with friends than parents. it is comprehensible as to why kids are doing this honestly. the changing of phase from young kids to young adults, places a lot of strain on a young mind. they seek comfort from friends who were never judgemental or subjective to begin with.

dr martens. daisy lowe.

daisy lowe. daisy lowe.
anyone with any idea who daisy lowe is? it doesn't matter if you don't.

Daisy Rebecca Lowe, born 27 January 1989, is an English fashion model who has modeled for editorial photo shoots and commercial advertising campaigns and has worked as a runway model.

dr martens. dr martens.
the boots and shoes have been especially popular among skinheads, punks, grungers and members of a few other youth subcultures.

anyways.
daisy lowe have made dr martens sexy again. despite it not being as well known locally as it would as western counterparts. it has definitely convinced me to get a pair. seriously.

"She’s got a playful sense of style that’s still far more sophisticated than her stateside peers. We dig that she wore age-appropriate (and darling) shorts to a Topshop party during London Fashion Week," says the WHOWHATWEAR blog.

campaigning for a brand is all about selling the celebritie's name to the brand. promoting the item is another thing. celebrity have to be able to sell the product using their name, to influence fans, groupies, fantics and what nots. but seriously, they have to take into consideration their own reputation as well. for example, kate moss, videotaped doing coke, all major labels and houses dropped her name from the campaign. its about carrying the brands name to put up a front for the brand and the fans.

the ads with daisy lowe wearing the bots, gives an impression as to how comfy the shoes are, how versatile it is. it adds an edge and a persona when you're giving a first impression.
its both for guys and girls. seeing how daisy lowe carry the boots off in the shoot just speaks how good she feels about wearing them.

gossip girl. 90210. the TV issue.

Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl is an American television teen drama inspired by the popular novel series of the same name, written by Cecily von Ziegesar. Gossip Girl satirizes and revolves around the lives of socialite young adults growing up on New York City's Upper East Side who attend elite academic institutions while dealing with sex, drugs, jealousy, and other teenage issues.

90210

90210 looks at the lives of high school students Annie Wilson and Dixon Wilson following their move to Beverly Hills from Kansas with their parents Harry Wilson and Debbie to the home of Harry's mother Tabitha as Harry takes a job as the principle at Annie and Dixon's new school. Annie, a sweet and friendly girl with a passion for the theater, and Dixon, a star athlete and scholar who was adopted by the Wilson family, enter the complex social life of West Beverly High, which includes students Naomi Clark, Ethan, Navid, Adrianna Duncan, and Erin "Silver" Silver. The faculty members that are prominantly featured include teacher Ryan Matthews, guidance counselor Kelly Taylor, and high school musical director Brenda Walsh.

despite only having 90210 being telecast in local television, both 90210 and gossip girl have a definite impact on society. both series potray a whole new world that most of us not not much aware of honestly. all of which are fascinating and intriguing. everything done is merely done for superficial purposes and done to get the attention of viewers. to get the attention, both series used very provocative, very sexy, very racy and extravagant scandals of teenage life to feed the viewers appetite. yes. yes. both series do deal with racial discrimination, alcoholism, date-rape, addictions, sex and more.

however odd this may sound, both series do emphasize on the teenage drama and troubles-but obviously at a more heightened level. it shows maturty of kids, the depth of the kids' mindset, the issues that arise, the understanding of the consequences to their addictions or what-nots.

both teen dramas not only changed how TV is, it changed almost everything. there are hints of gossip girls in movies and new TV shows. it shows a changing era of kids today, despite the probabbilty of being more superficial, materialistic, kids do get the drastic consequences they have to go through if nothing goes as planned.
