gossip girl. 90210. the TV issue.

Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl is an American television teen drama inspired by the popular novel series of the same name, written by Cecily von Ziegesar. Gossip Girl satirizes and revolves around the lives of socialite young adults growing up on New York City's Upper East Side who attend elite academic institutions while dealing with sex, drugs, jealousy, and other teenage issues.

90210

90210 looks at the lives of high school students Annie Wilson and Dixon Wilson following their move to Beverly Hills from Kansas with their parents Harry Wilson and Debbie to the home of Harry's mother Tabitha as Harry takes a job as the principle at Annie and Dixon's new school. Annie, a sweet and friendly girl with a passion for the theater, and Dixon, a star athlete and scholar who was adopted by the Wilson family, enter the complex social life of West Beverly High, which includes students Naomi Clark, Ethan, Navid, Adrianna Duncan, and Erin "Silver" Silver. The faculty members that are prominantly featured include teacher Ryan Matthews, guidance counselor Kelly Taylor, and high school musical director Brenda Walsh.

despite only having 90210 being telecast in local television, both 90210 and gossip girl have a definite impact on society. both series potray a whole new world that most of us not not much aware of honestly. all of which are fascinating and intriguing. everything done is merely done for superficial purposes and done to get the attention of viewers. to get the attention, both series used very provocative, very sexy, very racy and extravagant scandals of teenage life to feed the viewers appetite. yes. yes. both series do deal with racial discrimination, alcoholism, date-rape, addictions, sex and more.

however odd this may sound, both series do emphasize on the teenage drama and troubles-but obviously at a more heightened level. it shows maturty of kids, the depth of the kids' mindset, the issues that arise, the understanding of the consequences to their addictions or what-nots.

both teen dramas not only changed how TV is, it changed almost everything. there are hints of gossip girls in movies and new TV shows. it shows a changing era of kids today, despite the probabbilty of being more superficial, materialistic, kids do get the drastic consequences they have to go through if nothing goes as planned.

Hmm, this show seems like a potential media that might just change our perception about girls. Anyways, it becomes evident that media does play a role in shaping our perception and thus, causing us to resort to stereotypes. However, i believe that the media is like a double-edged sword. So, it boils down to how a person interpret the media.
